有这样一位老师,带领着二十六位学生,在小学毕业的前一年里,立下这样一个约定,说道一起喂养一头小猪。在毕业前夕,由整个班级来决定小猪的命运。
孩子们为了这个小小的生命激动不已。他们在学校操场边为小猪建了一个小窝。在窝里铺上了厚厚的褥子,生怕小猪着凉生病。虽然顶着旗号说只给小猪喂剩饭剩菜,但是一旦发现小猪爱吃番茄,天真的孩子总忍不住买来新鲜的番茄让小猪大快朵颐。在孩子的心里,这头被唤作“P-Chan”的小猪成为了小学生活的一部分,她也是六年级二班的一员。可是小猪在一天天地长大,眼看着毕业的那天即将来临,原本齐心协力照顾小猪的同班同学为了P-Chan的未来开始了一番可能听来幼稚但却发人深省的辩论。
是把小猪送到肉品中心(屠宰场)还是留给三年级的同学继续养呢?孩子都想做“负责任”的喂养者,可什么才算是负责任,什么才是责任呢?负责任就是一直喂养小猪直到小猪老死,还是把小猪送到肉品中心,对猪肉进行分配,完成“吃”的责任,让小猪的生命没有“白白浪费”呢?如果喜欢小猪的话,就应该对小猪负起应有的责任,这么喜欢,为什么不自己继续而要推给下年级的同学呢?可是马上就毕业了,根本不可能一直喂养小猪啊?如果只是因为自己要毕业无法照顾小猪,就要结束P-Chan的生命,这样又对吗?P-Chan总要死的。难道因为小猪生命有限,我们就有权利决定现在结束她吗?杀掉和吃掉是不同的!不同在哪里?杀掉是夺取生命,吃掉是在以另外一种方式延续生命……
Hana-Chan在争论的最后问道,老师,到底谁有权利决定生死?老师沉吟,没有人。
这段孩子有笑声有泪水的辩论,似乎已远远超出了关于P-Chan的未来。想起不久前看的另一部日本电影,不由地对这种关于尊重生命,也尊重逝者的论道肃然起敬。小猪之于孩子,大多时候可能只是一顿美味佳肴。当我们让孩子亲身经历饲养一个生命的成长的时候,我们同时也给与了他们对这个生命最起码的尊重。他们明白P-Chan的每一天成长都来自于他们悉心的照料,所以这个小猪不等同于桌上的猪肉。而这个生命的最终归宿却无法脱离必然的终点。生命有限,是即使弱冠的幼童也隐约感受到的自然规律。可是,当这个小猪的未来掌握在孩子们的手中,亦夺亦放,却显得那样沉重。
老师最早的课程命题,是要让孩子们明白生命的可贵。明白“谁之盘中餐,粒粒皆辛苦”的道理,明白自己生命得以延续是通过汲取了很多其他生命,明白要让自己的生命活得有价值才能对得起那些被牺牲的生命。这样的课程本身并没有成功与否的定论。他彰显的人生力量是在孩子们毕业礼上那满含泪水的“Smile Again”歌声中,在孩子们最终不舍地送走小猪走向他自己的道路时虽然纷乱但愈发稳健的步伐里,我们相信孩子学到的已远远超过原本的课程计划。这是一个生命对一群生命的启发,这样的课值得铭记……
